The murder case against Donvito Kroutz has been postponed to Friday 5 June, following his appearance in the Strand Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (16 April).
The 23-year-old, charged with the murder of Adlai Meyer, was remanded in custody after the case was postponed for further consultation with his legal representative.
At the hearing it was revealed Kroutz was out on bail for a separate case for which he had previously appeared. Both matters were postponed, with bail cancelled by the magistrate.
Kroutz is alleged to be one of two attackers who approached Meyer while walking home in Van Rheede Street, Weltevreden in the early hours of Sunday 29 March. Meyer was stabbed multiple times (“Arrest for fatal stabbing“, DistrictMail & Helderberg Gazette, 8 April).

The 60-year-old was found by a community member and died from his wounds at Tygerberg Hospital on Monday 30 March.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday 31 March and made his first court appearance on Thursday 2 April.
Meyer’s family were present in court and said they are still in mourning, his funeral having taken place a few days before, on Saturday 11 April.
Family members stood outside the court with posters held aloft reading “Justice for Adlai Meyer” alongside the police case number.
His loved ones also started a Change.org petition opposing bail for Kroutz.
