STELLENBOSCH – Kanonkop Estate, one of South Africa’s most prestigious wine farms, has appointed Louw Strydom as its new Chief Operating Officer, effective 1 September.

The 37-year-old brings extensive experience to the globally recognised Stellenbosch-based winery, having spent 12 years in the Cape wine industry with particular expertise in premium international marketing and digital wine commerce.

Strydom will oversee multiple aspects of the operation, including production, sales, and marketing, according to Johann Krige, who co-owns the estate with his brother Paul.

“Myself and Paul are extremely pleased to have Louw on board in the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer,” Krige said. “At the youthful age of 37 he brings with him a vibrant energy, experience in international and global marketing as well as acute knowledge of the digital space in which much of the wine world’s activities occur.”

The appointment comes as Kanonkop continues to strengthen its position in both domestic and international markets. Krige said that Strydom’s digital expertise will be particularly valuable as the wine industry increasingly moves online.

“He will be a true asset to Kanonkop, ensuring we continue to grow both our image as a leading Cape wine brand as well as market-share for our wines,” Krige added.

For Strydom, the opportunity represents a career pinnacle in the wine industry.

“Kanonkop embodies greatness which can be attributed to various aspects,” he said. “Being a fourth-generation family wine farm, Kanonkop bears both legacy and provenance, these adding gravitas to the reputation of the brand.”

He highlighted the estate’s unique advantages, including its exceptional Simonsberg terroir and traditional winemaking approach that has established Kanonkop as a producer of world-class wines.

“Kanonkop is not only a South African icon, but a world icon, too, and I look forward to partnering Johann and Paul in taking the brand and its glorious wines into a new era,” Strydom concluded.

The appointment signals Kanonkop’s commitment to combining its traditional winemaking heritage with modern marketing approaches as it continues to build its international reputation.
