STELLENBOSCH – Delheim Wine Estate has opened a new network of hiking and trail-running routes, providing visitors access to three scenic trails ranging from 2.5 km, 5 km and 10 km across the historic Simonsberg landscape.

The trails, which opened this week, cater to outdoor enthusiasts of all fitness levels, from families seeking morning strolls to serious trail runners looking for challenging terrain. Each route has been designed to showcase the farm’s diverse ecosystems and offer spectacular views of the surrounding Boland region.

Starting with panoramic vistas of Table Mountain, the trails wind through a secluded valley of pristine Renosterveld before ascending into Boland Granite Fynbos territory. Wildlife enthusiasts may encounter Southern Boubou birds, Cape Spotted Eagle Owls, and evidence of larger mammals including Cape leopard, rooikat, and duiker.

The seasonal flora provides year-round interest, with summer bringing the delicate Simonsberg Daisy, autumn offering wild mushrooms, and higher elevations featuring proteas, buchu, and suikerbossie. The route culminates with sweeping views of the Simonsberg and historic Kanonkop, a former signalling point for Cape trade vessels.

The self-guided trails require no advance booking and are accessible daily from 8:00 AM. Entry permits cost R75 per person for all ages and routes, available at reception via card or SnapScan payment. Visitors complete a brief registration process before departure, with staff guidance available for first-time hikers.
