Stellenbosch FC forward Devin Titus has etched his name into club history by becoming the youngest player to reach 150 appearances for the Cape Winelands outfit. The 24-year-old achieved the milestone during last week’s Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC.
At 24 years, three months, and 30 days, Titus joins an exclusive club alongside former captain Deano van Rooyen and current skipper Sage Stephens as the only players to reach 150 matches in Stellenbosch’s maroon and gold jersey.
The Bishop Lavis-born player’s journey began in 2020 when he joined Stellenbosch’s development ranks. Within two years, he had captained the reserve team to both DStv Diski Challenge and Premier League Next Generation Cup titles. Such was his impact that his number seven jersey was temporarily retired by the reserve team.
“I’m honoured to reach this milestone and hope to play many more matches for the club,” said Titus, who made his professional debut in January 2021 against Black Leopards.
Since signing his first-team contract in July 2023, Titus has featured in 98.6% of all possible Stellenbosch FC matches, missing only two fixtures. His contributions helped secure the 2023 Carling Knockout trophy, where he earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
The versatile forward, who initially played right-back before establishing himself in his preferred position, has also helped Stellenbosch reach two consecutive MTN8 finals and qualify for the CAF Confederation Cup in successive seasons.
Recently promoted to the club’s leadership group, Titus has already captained the team during Sage Stephens’ absence, notably in a memorable Carling Knockout quarter-final victory over Kaizer Chiefs.
With 150 appearances completed, the Bafana Bafana international sits just 11 matches behind van Rooyen’s all-time club record of 161 appearances.
“Surpassing Deano’s record will be bittersweet, but I want to make history at Stellenbosch FC,” concluded Titus.
