From Friday night’s URC battles through to Sunday’s F1 main event, here’s everything you need to know about a weekend that promises drama, heartbreak, and hopefully, a few South African triumphs.

Friday Night: Stormers start the European tour

Friday, 2 October

The weekend kicks off with the Stormers facing a brutal assignment at Edinburgh (20:45, SuperSport 201). After securing a home victory in Round 1, the Cape Town side now confronts the reality of European away rugby – cold conditions, hostile crowds, and a physical Edinburgh outfit desperate to claim their first win of the campaign.

Elsewhere in the URC, Cardiff host Zebre (20:45, SS 217) and Benetton welcome Connacht (20:45) in fixtures that will shape the early-season standings.

Off the rugby field, golf takes centre stage with the DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (13:00, SS 213) and the PGA Tour’s Bank of Utah Championship (23:00, SS 213).

South African cricket fans can catch Pro20 Cup action as the Rhinos take on the Tuskers (12:50, SS 212), followed by Knights versus Titans (17:50, SS 212).

And for the early risers, Formula One’s Bahrain Grand Prix – relocated to Malaysia’s iconic Sepang circuit due to Middle East conflict – begins with first and second practice sessions (06:25 and 09:45, SS 215).

Super Saturday: The big URC showdowns

Saturday, 3 October

Saturday delivers the weekend’s heavyweight clashes, with all three South African URC sides in action against European powerhouses.

The day builds towards an 18:30 double-header that will define the round: the Sharks travel to Dublin to face defending champions Leinster (SS 211), whilst simultaneously, Glasgow host Ulster (SS 217).

But the main event arrives at 20:45 when the Bulls march into the cauldron of Thomond Park to face Munster (SS 211). After making wholesale backline changes in a bid to unlock Munster’s legendary defence, the Bulls face perhaps the sternest examination of their credentials on European soil.

Earlier, the Lions take on Ospreys (13:45, SS 211), whilst Dragons face Scarlets in an all-Welsh affair (16:00, SS 211).

Golf continues with the Sunshine Tour’s Limpopo Championship (12:00, SS 213), the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (13:00, SS 199), and the Bank of Utah Championship (23:00, SS 213).

Formula One ramps up with third practice (06:15, SS 215) before the crucial qualifying session (09:55, SS 215) that will determine Sunday’s grid.

Tennis fans can catch the Chinese Open from 05:00 (SS 217).

Super Sunday: Springbok women, Tbilisi action, and F1 fireworks

Sunday, 4 October

Sunday opens with the Springbok women facing Spain in the WXV Series (11:55, SS 201). New attack guru Melusi Mthetwa steps into the breach.

South African rugby fans have more to feast on with three Tbilisi Cup fixtures featuring SA teams. The Pumas face Lusitanos (11:55, SS 211), Griquas take on the Iberians (14:55, SS 211), and the Cheetahs square off against Black Lion (17:55, SS 211).

Cricket’s Pro20 Cup continues with Impalas versus Dolphins (12:50, SS 212) and Warriors against Lions (17:50, SS 212).

Golf wraps up with finals across three tournaments: the Limpopo Championship (11:00, SS 213), Alfred Dunhill Links Championship (16:00, SS 213), and Bank of Utah Championship (23:00, SS 213).

But the weekend’s showpiece arrives at 08:55 (SS 215) when the engines fire for the Bahrain Grand Prix main race at Sepang. With Esteban Ocon departing Haas and Fernando Alonso staying loyal to Aston Martin, the off-track drama matches the on-track intensity.

Tennis fans can catch the Chinese Open quarter-finals from 07:00 (SS 217).
