VREDEFORT – A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of his 61-year-old father following an alleged assault at Mokwallo, near Vredefort.
According to police, officers responded to a complaint of an alleged assault at a residence in the Mapetla Section of Mokwallo at approximately 16:10 on Sunday, 2 August.
On arrival, police found the victim, identified as Ndode Lenong (61), lying on a bed with severe head injuries and a swollen face. Officers were informed that he had allegedly been assaulted by his son with an unknown object.
Mr Lenong was taken to Parys Hospital before being transferred to a hospital in Bloemfontein for further medical treatment. Despite medical efforts, he died from his injuries at about 09:10 on Monday, 3 August.
Police allege that the father and son had argued over a cigarette shortly before the assault took place.
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested at his residence and has been charged with murder. He is expected to appear in the Vredefort Magistrate’s Court soon.
