GQEBERHA – The search for 17-year-old Curtis Samson from Bloemendal will continue after he was swept away by strong currents today, 10 October, while attempting to rescue a friend who got into trouble in the water at the Tigerbay Rod Club in Swartkops.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, police and SAPS divers responded to the drowning complaint at about 09:55.

“On arrival, they were informed that the 17-year-old boy was with friends busy fishing. They went into the water to cool off. One of the boys got into trouble in the water, and the 17-year-old boy went in to assist his friend but found himself also in trouble and was swept away by the current,” she reported.

She added that due to water conditions at about 13:00, the search was suspended.

SAPS Swartkops opened a missing person’s report for the 17-year-old.
