Union High School Honours Samantha Charles as 2026 Dux

Graaff-Reinet – From her first steps through Union’s gates as a Grade 1 learner to standing proudly as the school’s Dux Learner for 2026. Samantha Charles has completed a remarkable twelve‑year journey defined by excellence, dedication and leadership.

At Friday evening’s Senior Prize-giving Ceremony, the school celebrated Samantha’s outstanding academic record with its highest honour. In addition to the coveted Luckhoff Memorial Prize as the top Grade 12 achiever, she received an impressive array of subject awards:

  • Bloemhof Prize for Life Sciences
  • GBG Prize for Accounting
  • Old Unionite Prize for Physical Sciences
  • Max Kroon Prize for Mathematics
  • UHS Prize for English

Her achievements were further recognised with the Tony Burrell Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. Furthermore, she received the Irene & Robert Prinsloo Accounting Bursary for Further Study.

Earlier this year, Samantha was awarded Union’s prestigious White Blazer, reserved for learners who maintain an average of 90% or higher. Since its introduction in 2004, only six Unionites have earned this distinction, underscoring the consistency and commitment behind her success.

Beyond academics, Samantha has embraced school life fully, serving as a prefect and embodying the values of Union High. As an A‑10 Unionite, she has spent her entire school career—from Grade 1 through Grade 12—within the Union family, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and inspiration.

Union High School extends heartfelt congratulations to Samantha Charles. Her achievements stand as a shining example for future Unionites and a fitting conclusion to twelve years of dedication.

Well done, Samantha—your story is one of true distinction.
