Cape Town — Rustenburg Girls’ High School proudly celebrates the achievements of its mathematics learners. They represented Western Province and the school with distinction in recent national and regional competitions.
National Representation at SAMTC
On Saturday, 19 September, Rustenburg learners competed in the South African Mathematics Team Competition (SAMTC), representing Western Province:
- Julia Cox — Western Province 1st Junior Team
- Rebecca Gray — Western Province 1st Senior Team
- Oluwatomilola Adeola and Katelyn Meiring — Western Province 2nd Junior Team
Their participation certainly highlights Rustenburg’s continued contribution to national excellence in mathematics.
Tour de Maths Success
The final leg of the Tour de Maths competition was hosted at Bishops on 10 September, concluding a five‑round challenge for Grade 8 and 9 teams from local schools. Rustenburg’s Grade 9 team, though nostalgic about their last event, celebrated finishing 3rd overall — a testament to their teamwork and perseverance.
International Opportunity for Hazel George
A special commendation goes to Hazel George (Grade 8), who has been selected to attend a training camp for the European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) during the September holidays. The rigorous selection process included a demanding test, and only the top female learners nationwide were selected. Hazel’s achievement reflects her exceptional talent and dedication.
School Pride
Rustenburg Girls’ High School congratulates all participants on their remarkable accomplishments. These successes underscore the learners’ problem‑solving ability, creativity, and passion for mathematics, while inspiring future generations to pursue excellence.
