PHUTHADITJHABA – The Free State Police Murder and Robbery Unit based in Phuthaditjhaba, QwaQwa is offering financial rewards totaling R175 000 for crucial information leading to arrests and convictions in four murder cases in the area. This is part of ongoing investigations to resolve the cases and establish the motive for the killings.
WO Mmako Mophiring, spokesperson for the Free State police, said police have yet to make a breakthrough in the murder cases, which occurred during separate periods. The killers could not be identified at the time the crimes were committed.
Cases include a double murder involving Democratic Alliance councillor Moshe Lefuma (40) and his mother, Mokejang Dina Monehi (61). The other double murder involves the fatal shooting of Melefe Richard Mokoena (69) and Seeko Hazel Matshidiso (16).
Councillor and mother shot dead
Police are offering an R50 000 reward for information leading to an arrest for the fatal shooting of Democratic Alliance party councillor Lefuma and his mother Monehi. They were killed on 23 November 2024 at approximately 09:00 at their home in Snake Park Section, Bluegumbosch. Police are searching for two unidentified suspects in connection with their murders.
Murder of a taxi owner
An R25 000 reward is being offered for information in the fatal shooting of taxi owner Khehla Isaiah Sithole (59), on 15 August 2024 at approximately 15:00. He was a member of the Majakathata Taxi Association. He was shot and killed while seated in his vehicle in a yard near a driving academy. Unidentified suspects approached from the street before opening fire.
Double murder en route home
An R50 000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators who shot and killed Melefe Richard Mokoena (69) and Seeko Hazel Matshidiso (16). They were attacked on 6 December 2024 at approximately 01:00. They were returning home, travelling in a white Isuzu KB bakkie from Elizabeth Ross Hospital to Katlehong Village.
Murder of a taxi association chairperson
Police are offering an R50 000 reward for information to resolve the murder of Matshediso Rachel Nteo (57), who was fatally shot multiple times on 24 January 2026. Unknown gunmen shot and killed at her residence in Thabanatshoana Village at approximately 20:55. Nteo was the chairperson of the Qwauta Taxi Association. According to preliminary investigations by police, four unidentified suspects were seen in the vicinity, travelling in a white vehicle with Gauteng (GP) registration plates.
