President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his shock and sadness at the untimely death of South Africa's Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, whose body was found in Paris under tragic circumstances on Tuesday morning, just hours after being reported missing.

KWAMBONAMBI – President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday, 12 October, deliver the eulogy in honour of the late ambassador Emmanuel Nkosinathi “Nathi” Mthethwa in KwaMbonambi in KwaZulu-Natal.

The late ambassador to France will be honoured with a Special Official Funeral Category 2 at KwaMbonambi. This category funeral will entail ceremonial elements performed by the South African Police Service.

Mthethwa served as South Africa’s Head of Mission in Paris, France, before passing away in the French capital on 30 September, at the age of 58.

Mthethwa’s body was discovered outside a luxury hotel in the French capital. Initial reports suggest that Mthethwa fell from the 22nd floor of the hotel, though French authorities have not yet officially confirmed the exact circumstances surrounding his death.

The incident has prompted investigations by both French and South African authorities.

His remains arrived at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday morning after his body was repatriated from Paris.
