Prince George (13) began his secondary education at Eton College on Tuesday, arriving at the exclusive Berkshire school with his parents.

Prince William and Catherine accompanied their eldest son on his first day at the historic institution. Headmaster Simon Henderson greeted the young royal, telling him: “Welcome, good luck, enjoy it.”

The teenager, who is second in line to the British throne, will board at the school despite living just a few kilometres away in Windsor. His family home sits within easy distance of the campus.

George follows the path of his father and uncle Prince Harry, who both completed their education at Eton. The school has shaped generations of Britain’s elite since King Henry VI founded it in 1440.

The prestigious institution charges annual fees exceeding £63 000, educating around 1 350 boys aged between 13 and 18 each year. Its alumni include 20 former prime ministers, among them Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

Actor Tom Hiddleston and James Bond creator Ian Fleming also attended the school, which maintains centuries-old traditions. Students wear a distinctive uniform featuring black tailcoats, waistcoats, striped trousers, and bow ties.

Rain fell steadily as George arrived for his first day. The date also marked four years since his grandfather King Charles III acceded to the throne, an occasion commemorated with a gun salute in central London.
