Second Woolworths explosion rocks Preller Square store

BLOEMFONTEIN – The Preller Square Shopping Centre in Dan Pienaar, Bloemfontein, has reopened for business after being temporarily cordoned off following an explosion in Woolworths earlier this morning.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit in Bloemfontein is now formally running the investigation, with the local SAPS Explosives unit and other relevant stakeholders still on the scene as investigations into the cause of the explosion are continuing.

Shoppers and employees have been permitted to re-enter the centre, while police officers – including investigators – and private security personnel continue to maintain a presence on the scene.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited.

According to reports, at around 03:00 on Friday 29 May, the store manager received a call from a security company informing him about an explosion inside the store.

Police have not yet confirmed the findings of their investigation into the matter.

This is a developing story. Further details will be provided as they become available.
