CAPE TOWN – A police officer appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (29 September) after he allegedly shot and killed two people during a domestic dispute in Eerste River over the weekend.

Phaladi Shuping, a spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), said the incident had been reported and its investigators had started the investigation.

According to a reliable source the family members, two males and two females, rushed to the location where the officer’s girlfriend apparently was in distress. On their arrival the officer allegedly opened fire before leaving the crime scene on Saturday (26 September) just after 23:30.

Two men aged 30 years and 36 years were fatally wounded, while one woman was shot in her arm and the other unharmed. One of the dead men apparently was the brother of the officer’s girlfriend.

The identities of the victims and suspect were unknown at the time of publishing. The case, meanwhile, was postponed to 6 October for bail application.
