JOHANNESBURG – The South African Police Service, supported by the Border Management Authority, has arrested another suspected drug mule at OR Tambo International Airport.

Police arrested a South African man (52) who arrived on a flight from Accra, Ghana, on Sunday morning.

Following an intelligence-led operation, officers intercepted the man and searched his luggage. Police uncovered bullet-like objects and blocks containing substances suspected to be heroin with an estimated street value of more than R2 million.

The arrest brings the total number of suspected drug mules arrested at the airport to three in the past three weeks.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court later this week to face drug trafficking-related charges. Investigations remain ongoing.

In a news release, police spokesperson Lt Col Amanda van Wyk said SAPS will continue to intensify its efforts to dismantle drug trafficking syndicates through ongoing intelligence-led and targeted operations.
