The Macassar Activist Forum (MAF) led a peaceful demonstration outside the Rheinmetall Denel Munition (RDM) depot in Macassar on Friday (10 October). The demonstration, held from 07:00 to noon, aimed to pressure the arms manufacturer to immediately halt the supply of weapons and ammunition to Israel, also in solidarity with global calls to end ongoing genocide in Gaza. Beyond pressuring RDM, MAF is demanding that all weapons-export permits to Israel be suspended and a transparent investigation into the company’s international arms deals take place, and that the country’s historic support for Palestinian rights be upheld. MAF spokesperson Desmond Stevens emphasised the community’s moral stance, saying “no to genocide, to profit from bloodshed, and yes to peace and justice” as organisers ensured the demonstration remained peaceful. Protesters gathered with raised placards displaying bold messages such as “Don’t be shy, be pro-Palestine.”
