There are still no leads in the disappearance of Wellington resident Jan Lingenfelder, his sister, Mariette Lingenfelder, said.
The 55-year-old disappeared on 28 September, two weeks ago. On the day he went missing, he went for an afternoon walk at around 16:30 near his home at Leeuwentuin farm on Bainskloof Pass.
“The police dog unit and their drones finished up on Friday (9 October). So, I think the police search is now on hold, probably until they get new leads. The difficult thing for us is that there are no leads and Jan is still missing. He also had no identification on him, except for his car keys,” Mariette said.

“We are now trying to spread the word as widely as possible that he still has not been found. We ask people to keep an eye out in case they see him; perhaps someone picked him up somewhere. We don’t know.”
She said the family still hoped Jan would return home safely. As previously reported, Jan underwent heart bypass surgery in December 2025.
Thembakazi Mpendukana, a spokesperson for the Western Cape police, confirmed last week that there were no new developments to report.
At the time of his disappearance, Jan was wearing a grey jacket, black shorts and blue sneakers.
Anyone with information that could help locate Jan can contact Wellington police on 021 864 8440.
