The third edition of the Sport SA Paarl 10 km road race delivered a standout performance this past weekend, attracting a strong field of 2 000 finishers and further cementing its status as a premier event on the region’s sporting calendar.

Set against the backdrop of Paarl Mountains, the race unfolded in near-perfect conditions, with an energetic crowd lining sections of the route to create a festive, high-spirited atmosphere.

Proceedings were officially opened by the town’s Mayor, whose starting gun signalled the beginning of an afternoon filled with both competitive intensity and community celebration in the heart of the Cape Winelands.

While the event catered to runners of all levels it was the elite field that captured the spotlight. In a dramatic sprint finish the top three men crossed the line within seconds of one another, delivering one of the day’s most thrilling moments.

Yanga Malusi surged ahead to claim victory in the men’s open race in a time of 30:25.

In the women’s race Danel Louw once again proved her class and consistency, successfully defending her title with a winning time of 37:13, after also topping the podium in the previous edition.

And, beyond the elite performances, the race remained true to its inclusive ethos, with participants of all ages and abilities taking on the challenge, from seasoned athletes chasing personal bests to first-time runners embracing the experience.

Athletes were treated to a professionally organised event, bolstered by strong sponsor support and an array of prizes that added further prestige to the occasion. From seamless logistics to race-day execution, organisers ensured a high-quality experience for all involved.

The impact of the event extended beyond the finish line, injecting vibrancy into the local community and underscoring the role of sport in fostering social connection and stimulating economic activity in the area.

Organisers expressed their appreciation to the Drakenstein Municipality for its continued support, along with headline sponsor RE/MAX Infoglobe Paarl for its commitment to growing the event.

Recognition was also given to host club Paarl Athletics Club for its operational expertise, as well as Courtrai Primary School for serving as an exceptional venue.

Thanks were also accorded to partners, including Versus, Smul, Virgin Active and Food Lover’s Market, whose contributions enhanced the overall race experience.

Volunteers and race marshals were thanked for ensuring safety and smooth running.
