Government has condemned the stabbing deaths of twins (14) at their home in Mamelodi West, calling the killings brutal and senseless.
The mother found her children dead in their bedroom on Friday, 2 October, when she arrived home from work. Both had suffered multiple stab wounds, police said.
The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) sent condolences to the family, friends and classmates of the siblings. The system said children represent the country’s future, and losing any child to violence damages the future South Africa is building.
“We must do everything in our power to protect our children. It is therefore a responsibility we all share,” the GCIS said.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) attended the scene after receiving reports of the murders. Officers found the twins’ bodies in a bedroom. Police said the mother discovered her children when she returned from work. They issued a brief statement on Saturday.
Government called on Mamelodi residents and surrounding communities to help police by sharing information about the killings. People who saw, heard or noticed anything unusual before, during or after the incident should contact SAPS directly or visit the nearest police station.
The GCIS warned people not to share unverified information, speculation or images on social media, saying this could distress the family and community further and damage the investigation.
Government said protecting children from violence needs joint efforts from all parts of society. The GCIS said the loss of the two young lives should strengthen everyone’s determination to protect children and hold those who threaten their safety accountable.
Communities should not stay silent when children face danger, government added.
People can report criminal activities to the nearest police station or call the SAPS Crime Stop line on 08600 10111. They can also submit information through the MySAPS App.
