MMABATHO – Two 37-year-old men were killed in separate incidents in Mmabatho villages in the early hours of Saturday 17 October, and two suspects have been arrested.
Lieutenant General Arthur Peter Adams, North West Provincial Commissioner, expressed concern over the killings and urged community members to resolve disputes peacefully rather than resorting to violence.
Seweding death
In the first incident, police responding to a complaint at about 00:45 found the motionless body of a 37-year-old man at a home in Seweding Village.
Emergency and Medical Rescue Services personnel declared him dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations indicate the man had allegedly jumped over a fence into the property and assaulted his girlfriend. Her 47-year-old brother reportedly intervened, and a confrontation between the two led to his death.
Modimola killing
In a separate, unrelated incident, a 37-year-old man was allegedly stabbed at Modimola Village at about 04:00. A complainant told police that a 22-year-old family member had arrived home at about 03:00 and broken a window of the room where she and the deceased were sleeping.
The man went outside to confront the suspect and a physical altercation followed. The complainant sought help from neighbours and, on returning, found the man on the ground with stab wounds. Emergency and Medical Rescue Services personnel declared him dead.
A 22-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with the stabbing.
Court date
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Mmabatho Magistrates’ Court soon on murder charges. Adams called for calm and responsible conflict resolution, and urged people to seek police assistance when situations escalate.
Police investigations into both incidents continue.
