The 15-year-old Dioka Dioka has been appointed as the Northern Cape’s junior provincial commissioner of the South African Police Service.
Dioka, a learner of the Ba-Galotlhare High School in Heuningvlei in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, was inaugurated in Upington on 7 May.
Altogether 18 learners from across the five districts had to give reasons for why they should become the junior provincial commissioner, and how they would use this position to fight crime.
They were adjudicated on their knowledge of the topic and their presentation skills.
The learners displayed in-depth understanding of what was expected of them.
Brig. Hennie van Rensburg, acting deputy provincial commissioner for policing, encouraged learners to embrace education, participate in the fight against crime and create safe and secure environments particularly in schools and communities.
Deputy junior provincial commissioners were also inaugurated:
- Danelle Jacobs of the Martin Oosthuizen High School in Kakamas (policing);
- Lusanda Selesho of the William Pescod High School in Kimberley (crime detection); and
- Lerato Sebatane of the Mogomotsi Secondary School in Warrenton (corporate services).
Brig. Gilroy Tait, acting deputy provincial commissioner of corporate services, presented them certificates of participation and floating trophies.
