A vehicle restoration programme to train new automotive repair professionals and to inspire entrepreneurship, was recently launched in the Sishen Mine’s host communities.

This A-Z Collision Repair Programme is a four-month long initiative by Anglo American’s Zimele, along with 3M and Super Auto Paints.

It provides theoretical background and practical automotive repair experience to participants. The training makes provision for on-the-job support which includes mentorship on business fundamentals relating to the panel beating industry.

Dawn Isdale, country governance leader and director at 3M South Africa, says it is rewarding to see the benefits it is bringing to the communities.

“Sharing our global expertise in collision repair solutions is not just about improving throughput at panel shops, it is about equipping individuals with skills that will have a lasting impact.”

The 20 participants are Zimele funding beneficiaries from Sishen Mine’s host communities and aspiring entrepreneurs who work for panelbeaters, or those who run their own small vehicle repairs operation.

Ernest Meas, project lead and Zimele hub manager, says this is not just about fixing vehicles, but about rebuilding livelihoods.

“This initiative equips participants with vital skills, turning challenges into opportunities and paving the way for sustainable growth. We are proud to be associated with this and thank our partners for their involvement.”
