Two suspects were arrested in Upington for allegedly dealing in drugs, and for being in possession of suspected stolen goods.
Sgt Omphile Masegela of the Upington Corporate Communication office, said on Friday, 10 February, members of the Upington Border Police and Highway Patrol unit conducted address verification inspections following an arrest of a 54-year-old man for dealing in drugs.
Upon arrival at the suspect’s residence, police found suspected stolen laptops, cell phones, and watches to the value of R200 000.
A woman (27) was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods.
Masegela said during further investigation, another house was pointed out where drugs, including mandrax tablets, Tik, cocaine and heroine to the estimated value of R92 800, were found. More cell phones and watches, also suspected stolen goods, were found at the residence.
The two suspects will soon appear in court on charges of dealing in drugs and possession of suspected stolen goods.
- In another police action on Thursday, 9 February, a couple from Jan Kempdorp was arrested for allegedly dealing in drugs.
Lt. Col Sergio Kock, police spokesperson, said members of the Kimberley and Hartswater police and K9 units, with the assistance from SAPS Crime Intelligence, followed up on information regarding drug sales in Jan Kempdorp.
The team pounced on the couple at their house in Masakeng, Jan Kempdorp. On searching the premises, they confiscated 270 sachets of high grade dagga and Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R8 100.
The team also seized cash believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.
The adult female suspect is a local resident while her boyfriend is a foreign national.
Kock said the suspects will appear in court soon on charges of dealing in drugs.
