Police members of the Upington Detectives and Crime Prevention Unit received a letter of appreciation from the management of Eskom, recognising their excellent and swift investigation that led to the recovery of Eskom equipment, valued at over R1 million, that was reported stolen.

Sgt Omphile Masegela, media spokesperson in the ZF Mgcawu District, said the members’ dedication led to the recovery of Eskom high voltage testing equipment that was reported stolen from a vehicle in Upington, and which is valued at R1 001 730.

Upon receiving the docket, the team leader of General Crimes, Lt Col Letlhogonolo Kanakang, assigned it to Const. Clarence Olyn and they followed up instantly.

The description of the equipment was provided to them and they immediately dispatched crime-prevention to be on the look-out.

They worked jointly on the case and information was received which ultimately led to recovery of the equipment at the Upington taxi rank.

The station commander of the SAPS in Upington, Brig. Peet Coetzee, acknowledged the letter of appreciation of the management of Eskom.
