The recent winter rainfall broke the seven-year drought that had its grip on the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park. The park transformed into a majestic wonderland. The drought was finally broken when Vandersterberg received the most rain, with 98 mm falling at the end of June and beginning of July. This is the first time in years that the landscapes flourished with greenery and flowers started blooming. Helskloof and De Koei are currently the areas with the most beautiful flowers. Some of these plant species were last seen in 2008. Pieter van Wyk, botanist at the park, recorded 45 daisy species (Asteraceae) in bloom at Helskloof.Photo: Supplied
