The Sword of Command was officially handed over to Lt Genl Koliswa Otola, the newly appointed provincial police commissioner of the Northern Cape. In taking the sword, Otola solemly swore to serve the province with loyalty, courage, dignity and honour. The sword was handed over to her by the national commissioner of the SAPS, Genl Fanie Masemola, at a ceremony on 21 September, at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley. Masemola reiterated that he had confidence in Otola and expected her to fight crime with the necessary vigor, zeal and diligence.
