A first-of-its-kind live performance by world renowned PJ Thandeka Powers and the Soweto Gospel Choir will soon be on stage in Kimberley, joined by local talent.
All funds generated at this event on Friday, 21 October, “Africa Soul with members of the Soweto Gospel Choir and Africa Mammas” will be used to support impoverished communities with healthy meals.
In Kimberley, 10 000 meals will be provided to Yonder, 10 000 to Caritas Community Focus and 10 000 to the Sally Aucamp Home for the Physically Disabled.
These meals, a highly nutritious instant porridge, Peak, were perfected by Harvest Foods. It is rich in fibre, vitamins, and minerals and provides a one-bowl solution for sustainability throughout the day. It is safe for use by diabetics and pregnant women. Also, no cooking is required. The meal is prepared by simply adding water or milk.
Project relieve hunger; restore dignity
For this project, Harvest Food and the Vernon Philander Foundation will be joined by Wintershoek Safaris. When Philippus Swart, director of Harvest Food, met Vernon Philander, director of The Vernon Philander Foundation (NPO), the two realised they share a similar view on hunger.
They also agree that donations do not always reach those who need it most. Each were already working on his own social projects and it sparked a relationship that aims to not only relieve hunger, but to also restore human dignity. Hence the name, The Humanity Project. When enquiring about the possibility of a sponsorship, Wiaan van der Linde, director of Wintershoek Safaris, immediately signed on as main sponsor upon hearing that the funds will be ploughed back into the communities in which the events are held.
Local talent shares the stage
The organisers wanted the local talent to take part in a project where their contribution makes a difference in their own communities. The Humanity Project wants to not only feed communities, but uplift and help restore their humanity by creating opportunities in sectors like arts and culture, education, and sports.
Local choirs are so hungry for the opportunity to perform, and with this project they not only get an opportunity to participate with world renowned artists, they also get to inspire the community.
Local talent on stage include the Newton Primary School Choir, the Kimberley Junior School Choir, and Letshego Primary School’s Marimba Band, and MARS.
The evening’s show promises to be spectacular, with world-renowned, award-winning talent and a build-up to a massive grand finale with all the participants.
- The event takes place in the Taberna Dei Auditorium in Kimberley at 19:00.
- Tickets cost R180 per person and are available at Computicket, Checkers and Shoprite.
