In this year’s Absa Wildeklawer Schools Sports Tournament, soccer will be a new addition.

Taking place in Kimberley from Sunday (24/04) until 2 May, an estimated 4 239 participants from 85 primary and high schools all over the country will compete in this prestige festival of rugby, netball and soccer.

“Absa Wildeklawer has produced 20 Springbok rugby players since 2009, and we are confident that with a partner like Absa we will produce more professional sportsmen and sportswomen,” said Cassie Carstens, operations manager for the tournament, at the launch of the event on 13 April in Kimberley. Amongst others, it was attended by tournament ambassadors, rugby legend Victor Matfield and netball star Dumisani Chauke.

This year, Absa introduces several innovations.

“We will be introducing the Absa MegaU Luxury Bus with free wi-fi, PlayStations and virtual reality rugby games. These will be available for players and fans to entertain themselves,” said Stonie Steenkamp, managing executive for Regional Coverage in Central South Africa.

“We introduce the Absa Kuierkamer for invited guests to relax and watch games.

“We also have some half-time fun activations in which youngsters can win cool prizes.”
