A hijacked truck, which was transporting goods worth R2 million, was found in Galeshewe in Kimberley, leading to the arrest of six male suspects.

On Tuesday, 28 May, the commander of the police station in Prieska received information that a truck transporting good was allegedly hijacked en route to the town.

Brig. MashayGamieldien, provincial police spokesperson, said the commander immediately communicated the information to the provincial head of Organised Crime Investigation: Crime Detection, who activated a team. The team, assisted by the Kimberley Flying Squad and Crime Prevention, reacted within minutes, and traced the truck.

The truck was found at a house in Galeshewe at approximately 16:30 and police members found six men off-loading the goods, which consist of groceries.

Six males were arrested, of whom one is a repeat offender. The stolen goods valued at approximately R2 million was confiscated, and the hijacked truck valued at R900 000 was seized.

Gamieldien said the rapid and swift response of the multi-disciplinary police team comprising of the Northern Cape Organised Crime Investigation: Crime Detection, Kimberley Flying Squad and Kimberley Crime Prevention, led to the recovery of this truck and the arrests of the suspects.

The suspects were charged with hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods and are expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court soon.

The provincial commissioner, Lt. Gen. Koliswa Otola, was elated by the rapid reaction of the team and commended the members for their relentless efforts in ensuring a safe and secure environment.

Six suspects were arrested.
