Applications for the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation’s entrepreneurial opportunity, known as the High School Scholarship, are open for learners with entrepreneurial potential.

Gr. 6 learners across the country are invited to apply for this life-changing opportunity and be part of a community of young leaders who will create value as part of their entrepreneurial careers.

The scholarship aims to produce confident learners with entrepreneurial thinking, unlocked potential, leadership qualities, and a desire to create value and help solve our country’s most pressing social and economic issues.

Gr. 6 learners must demonstrate an interest in becoming an entrepreneur or business owner to be eligible for the programme at one of South Africa’s top achieving partner high schools.

The following criteria, amongst more, applies for applicants:

  • must be in Gr. 6 in 2023;
  • must show interest in becoming an entrepreneur or business owner;
  • cannot be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11 years in Gr. 6;
  • demonstrates financial need (household income must not exceed a monthly gross income of R20 000, including business revenue);
  • must obtain a minimum of 70% for English and Mathematics in Gr. 5 and June of Gr. 6, while obtaining a minimum overall average of 70% average for all subjects;
  • indicates potential entrepreneurial flair and passion, and belief in the future of our country; and
  • must be a South African citizen (one parent must be a South African citizen).

Some of the elements covered by the scholarship are:

  • tuition, uniform and boarding;
  • stationery, textbooks, toiletries, causal clothing;
  • monthly allowance;
  • support for extra murals;
  • workshops, speaker events and seminars;
  • regional entrepreneurial experience sessions;
  • annual entrepreneurial conference;
  • online learning conference; and
  • programme officer (mentorship, one on one courageous conversation).
