Last week, a police sergeant, Claudius Minnaar (40), appeared in the De Aar District Court on a charge of drunken driving.
The National Road Traffic Act stipulates that no one shall drive or occupy the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle with the engine running on a public road if their blood alcohol content is over the legal limit.
On 18 February, Minnaar was found at the scene of an accident and behind the wheel of a police vehicleSAPS bakkie, said Mojalefa Senokoatsane, spokesperson of the National Prosecution Authority. Minnaar was charged and the matter was beenthen remanded to Tuesday (28/02) for further investigations.
