Despite facing numerous challenges, a group of dedicated learners from all over the Northern Cape celebrated their qualifications in child and youth care work, demonstrated unwavering commitment to their studies and personal growth.
This achievement of the culmination of their hard work and perseverance through the Continuing Education for Africa (Cefa) programme, in collaboration with the Department of Social Development (DSD), was celebrated on 23 October in Kimberley at the Horse Shoe Inn.
Cefa, a non-profit organisation, provided the platform for the learners to acquire vital skills and knowledge in child and youth care work.
The certificate celebration ceremony, attended by dignitaries, family members, and friends, honour the learner’s accomplishments.
The learners, hailing from diverse backgrounds, faced various obstacles, including financial constraints, personal struggles, and societal challenges.
However, through Cefa’s supportive framework and their own determination, they persevered.
One learner, Jennifer Agenbacht, said that as a group they overcame their challenges.
“At first, we were individuals but we became family. When one learner experienced difficulties, we all experienced it together and assisted one another. We are leaving this course as changed individuals ready to make a difference.
“Mister Lucky Jacobs, our facilitator, was the best. He empowered us with the knowledge he shared and we are forever grateful to him, Cefa and DSD for the opportunity.”
The Child and Youth Care Work qualification equips learners with expertise in child development, counselling, and community engagement. As they enter the workforce, they will contribute to creating safer, more supportive environments for vulnerable populations.
