A total of 470 rounds of ammunition were seized on Tuesday, 23 January in Kimberley.
According to Lt. Col. Sergio Kock, police spokesperson, members of the police’s Public Order Policing unit were busy with routine patrols, when at approximately 10:00 they spotted two suspicious looking males walking on the road at the Samaria informal settlement near the R64 Road in Kimberley.
The suspects saw the approaching police members and dropped a plastic bag they were carrying. They fled into the informal settlement and escaped through the shanties.
Police searched the plastic shopping bag and found amongst other rounds for a 9 mm, .22, 38-special, as well as hollow point rounds inside it.
The two suspects who escaped were dark in complexion and were wearing blue overalls and yellow T-shirts.
Kock said the proliferation of firearms and ammunition remains a priority for the police, hence the police request that anyone with information about the suspects to immediately contact their nearest police station or utilise the MySaps app.
Police also request that the public do not approach these suspects as they are presumed to be armed and dangerous.
