The recent execution of Operation Shanela netted 244 arrests, with 20 844 actions that were executed in the Northern Cape.
As part of this operation, disruptive actions were executed from Monday, 28 August, to Sunday, 3 September.
It comprised of stop and searches, vehicle check points, cordon and searches, high visibility patrols, compliance inspections at liquor outlets, tracing operations by detectives, and visits and compliance inspections at businesses and second-hand goods dealers.
Lt Col Sergio Kock, police spokesperson, said outstanding successes included two foreign national males who were arrested for possession of an illegal firearm after police searched their vehicle in Keimoes.
Two males were also arrested in Galeshewe and Roodepan respectively after members of the Kimberley K9 unit, Crime Prevention and Crime Intelligence followed up on information and confiscated Mandrax, tik and dagga worth R18 000 and R15 000 at the two houses.
Another male was arrested in Bothitong after police found him in possession of 26 liters of alleged stolen petrol and diesel, a laptop and a flat screen television.
Kock said police members across the province conducted routine visits at ATMs, business premises, national key points, Post Offices and tuckshops.
