The onset of warmer weather and earlier sunrises make it the perfect time to get involved with a parkrun event.

During these free events taking place every Saturday – at 07:00 or 08:00, depending on the season or specific location – participants can complete a 5 km run or walk.

It is not a competition, and each participant is only competing against him or herself.

After registering as a parkrunner (no cost involved), a participant receives a barcode which is scanned after the completion of an event and the time in which the parkrun is completed, will be send to the participant.

One can also get involved as a volunteer at a parkrun event.

In the Northern Cape, parkruns are done at Kathu, Kimberley, Lieberwalt Farm at Vanderkloof, Upington, Aggeneys, Springbok, and the Akkerendam Nature Reserve at Calvinia. A parkrun is also presented at Jacobsdal in the Free State, close to the Northern Cape border.

  • The Kimberley parkrun on Saturday, 28 September, at the Rooifontein game farm outside the city, will be a “purple parkrun” to help creating awareness on World Alzheimer’s Month which is observed in September.
