The recent Race2TheSky cycle event opened the next chapter of the Oryx Unbound Gravel series and also set the first leaderboard for the Unbound, Quest and Dash options.
Race2TheSky was presented by Oryx Endurance Event Management on 7 February in the backdrop of the Uitzicht Game Lodge near Fouriesburg in the Eastern Free State.
This event saw Alwyn Dippenaar (5:28:58) and Lasquevé Raubenheimer (6:19:54) as the male and female winners in the Unbound distance (100 miler).
The Matsa, taking place on 28 March, is the next event in this series, and commences and ends at the Petrusburg show grounds, with the route taking cyclist through the landscapes of the Free State battlefields.
This is followed by the Sungazer on 30 May, from Bloemfontein.
Podium finishers
Female podium finishers for Race2TheSky Unbound are Raubenheimer; Tanya Roos (6:38:11); and Angie Terwin (8:12:50), while Dippenaar, Juan-Pierre van Rhyn (6:22:48); and Tom Ackerman (6:27:05) stood on the podium as the first three male finishers.
In the Quest (86km or middle distance) Colleen Jacobs (3:58:48); Johanet Heymann (4:19:08); and Fran-Mari Lombard (5:49:25) stood on the podium, as well as Andries Wessels (3:55:44); Flippie Cloete (4:02:32); and Kobus Prinsloo (4:04:12) in the male category.
Elizca Jacobs (3:08:13) came out tops in the Dash (50km or short distance), followed by Elane Heymans (3:14:54); and Lenchen Muller (3:16:07).
In the male category, Rolfe Brecher (1:57:30) is the winner; followed by Marco Fourie (2:00:42); and Jano Fourie (2:00:47).
The E-bike champions in the Quest female category are Maria Magdalena Badenhorst, Carla van Jaarsveld, and Elana van Jaarsveld, with Carel Pretorius, Hendrik Kemp, and Thoms Kemp in the male category.
