Pictures drawn by learners of local schools welcomed nurses at the personnel entrance of the Mediclinic Gariep on Friday, 12 May, to celebrate International Nurses’ Day.

Denise Coetzee, patient experience manager, said they received pictures from the Staats Primary School, St Patrick’s CBC and the Clever Kids Crèche.

This year International Nurses Day was celebrated with the theme, “Care goes further than you think” which aims to acknowledge and thank each nurse who has chosen a career of caring for others.

Coetzee said according to a 2022 Gallup survey, nursing has globally been regarded as one of the most trusted professions for more than 20 years, followed by doctors and pharmacists.

People recognise that our community places its trust in us each time they enter our hospitals or day clinics, she commented.

On this day every year, Mediclinic has a tradition that colleagues within each Mediclinic select a Nursing Excellence Award winner, nominated by their peers in recognition of their selfless work that stands out above others.

Enrolled nursing auxiliary Ferdinand Baartman received this year’s award at Mediclinic Kimberley and Gariep.

“Ferdinand has exhibited care and dedication towards others and is part of the reason our patients visit our hospitals and trust our expertise. Ferdinand has worked for Mediclinic for 15 years. He is known for his loyalty, dedication, knowledge and ability to care and lead by example,” Coetzee said.

Mediclinic congratulates all the nominees who were identified by their colleagues for their outstanding demonstration of expertise and care.

The personnel entrance at the MediClinic Gariep was decorated with paintings drawn by learners to celebrate International Nurses Day.
