The Northern Cape Department of Health is calling on communities across all five districts – Namakwa, ZF Mgcawu, Frances Baard, Pixley ka Seme and John Taolo Gaetsewe – to nominate committed individuals to serve on Hospital Boards and Community Health Centre (CHC) and Primary Health Care (PHC) Clinic Committees.
Committee members are expected to contribute to promoting ethical, effective and accountable governance and leadership; providing oversight and supporting sound corporate governance; promoting effective risk management and accountability; supporting appropriate financial, audit and information governance; and advancing meaningful community participation in the delivery of quality health services.
Eligibility criteria
Applicants or nominees must be South African citizens and be 18 years or older; for Clinic Committees, reside within the catchment area served by the relevant facility; demonstrate skills, expertise or a record of service and commitment to community development; have an understanding and appreciation of governance and community participation; be of sound mind; and have no criminal record.
Documentation requirements
Each nomination must include a one-page motivation indicating the nominee’s full name, address, facility targeted, relevant skills, experience and qualifications; comprehensive profile of the nominee; copy of the nominee’s South African identity document; proof of address; copies of relevant qualifications and competency certificates, certified not more than three months prior to the closing date; and signed motivation by the nominee accepting the nomination.
Self-nominations are permitted and must include the same documentation and a one-page motivation outlining the applicant’s suitability to serve.
Nomination packages must be hand-delivered to the relevant health facility.
Successful candidates will serve for a three-year term, commencing 1 November, and will be expected to actively participate in the activities and responsibilities of the governance structure.
