This week, successes achieved by members of the SAPS in the Northern Cape became clear in several arrests made, as well as suspects receiving sentences in court.
Some of the successes are:
- On Wednesday (17/08) a medical doctor from Kimberley appeared in the Kimberley District Court for allegedly raping a teenager. Dr Ilunga Kalasa (35) is accused of raping a 17-year-old patient at his surgery.
Mojalefa Senokoatsane, the regional spokesperson of the National Prosecution Authority, said it is alleged that on Monday (15/08) the victim went to the accused’s surgery for a medical consultation.
During the medical examination, it is alleged that the accused raped the complainant. She left the surgery, and informed her aunt the following morning about the incident.
A case was opened with the police and the accused was arrested and charged with rape.
Kalasa is remanded in custody until his next appearance on Monday (22/08) where he is expected to formally make his intention to apply for bail. Investigations led by the police are continuing.
- On Tuesday (16/08) the 33-year-old Koleen Job was found guilty of murder in the Britstown Regional Court, and was sentenced to 15 years jail sentence. Last year on 21 October, Job and a 46-year-old male were drinking at a friend’s house in Proteaville, Britstown. An argument broke out and Job stabbed the deceased once in the chest.
Lt. Col Sergio Kock of the SAPS Media Centre in the Northern Cape, said the man died on the scene and Job was arrested. Brig. Nicky Mills, the acting deputy provincial commissioner for Crime Detection, commended Detective Sgt Petrus Arnold of the Britstown Detectives Unit for his investigation that led to this sentence for murder.

Kock said on 2 June last year Mkhontawana broke into the house of a 53-year-old female. He also tried to pin her down on the bed but she managed to escape and inform the police.
Mkhontwana was arrested, leading to jail sentence for his criminal deeds, Kock said. Mills commended Detective Const. AR Blouw of the Kuyasa Detectives Unit for his investigation.
