Police members from Kuruman have arrested another three suspects in connection with the murder of the 81-year-old farmer, Hendrik Venter.

Col Cherelle Ehlers, police spokesperson, said the three suspects were apprehended in Hotazel at approximately 10:30 on Saturday, 28 September. 

A fourth suspect was already arrested on Friday evening.

The four suspects, aged between 18 years and 26 years, are expected to appear in court soon.

Northern Cape provincial commissioner, Lt. Gen. Koliswa Otola, commended the police members for their swift response and perseverance that led to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The police in Kuruman in the Northern Cape are investigating the murder of the 81-year-old farmer, Hendrik Venter, after his body was found at the gate of a neighbouring farm.

On Friday, 27 September, the deceased left his farm, situated between Kuruman and Hotazel, at approximately 08:30 to visit cattle posts.

Col Cherelle Ehlers of the Northern Cape Media Centre, said it is alleged that Venter was found at about 09:45 at the gate of a neighbouring farm next to his vehicle, with wounds to his head.

It is alleged that an undisclosed amount of money was missing.

The police were immediately notified, and the 72-hour activation plan was implemented. A search operation, comprising of units from Kuruman, including K9, Visible Policing, Highway Patrol, Crime intelligence, and the Local Criminal Record Centre, was activated to search for the suspects.

At approximately 18:00, three suspects were tracked near Hotazel. Two suspects fled and a third man (25) was apprehended.

It is believed that four suspects are still at large, and the tracing operation continues.
