Marriage proposal can be memorable for all the right reasons

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

If you think Monday (14/02) might be the day to ask that all-important question, following a few tips might help to ensure that the proposal is memorable for all the right reasons.

  • First, consider popping the big question at a place with sentimental value. It could be a restaurant where you had your first date, taking your relationship full circle. Have your nearest and dearest at a nearby vantage point. After you have popped the question and your partner says yes, wave everyone over so that they can congratulate you both and share in the happy moment.
  • To avoid confusion or misunderstanding, say the words “will you marry me?” loud and clear.
  • As you will want fabulous images of the proposal, hire a professional photographer.
  • Try to propose during the day or early evening, so you can enjoy the rest of the evening with your partner.
  • If you struggle with being romantic, smooth or sauve, avoid forcing it and coming across as insincere. Talk from the heart and be yourself.
  • Do not read your speech. If you are nervous that you will forget everything you have to say, make a cheat sheet. Speak slowly and clearly.
  • If your partner has children, include them in the proposal and even bring them in on the plan. Just make sure they can keep a secret.
  • Wherever or however you propose, know you partner. If she is shy, do not do a public, elaborate, over-the-top proposal in front of large crowds. If you do not like it, it may very well be that your partner doesn’t either.
