This year’s National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations commence on Monday, 21 October, with English and Afrikaans home, first additional, and second additional language papers.
The exams conclude in week six, with Computer Applications Technology (CAT) and Information Technology (IT) rewrites on Thursday, 28 November.
On Friday, 11 October, Mafu Rakometsi, chief executive officer (CEO) of quality assurance council Umalusi, said the country’s four assessment bodies were ready to conduct, administer and manage the upcoming matric exams. These are the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the Department of Higher Education, and the two private assessment bodies: the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) and the South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (Sacai).
More than 1,1 million candidates have registered in total, with 882 336 who are registered to write the NSC exams through the DBE.
News24 reported that Ramoketsi issued a stern warning to learners and teachers “to refrain from all forms of cheating, including group copying where teachers are sometimes implicated.”
A shortage of markers has been identified in certain subjects, and measures have been implemented to address this.
Also, exam centres have been classified and profiled based on their risk levels as high, moderate, and low.
