Entries for the 2025 Proscenium Drama Competition are now open.

A highlight for the 2025 finalists is the opportunity to participate in a stage production, directed by a professional, at one or more national arts festivals. Next year’s production is proudly supported by the Stigting vir Bemagtigings deur Afrikaans (SBA).

Proscenium is an initiative of the Tribuo Fund, which aims to empower the arts.

“Our goal is to invest in the future of the entertainment industry by introducing young people to the performing arts. By exposing participants to theatre, television, radio, and dubbing, we strengthen the arts ecosystem,” says Karen Meiring, Tribuo’s executive chairperson.

“The competition helps learners make informed career decisions by connecting them with successful professionals and mentors. During the finals in Cape Town, participants build valuable networks and form lasting friendships,” notes Gillian Mitchell, director of Tribuo.

Cornelia Faasen, chief executive officer (CEO) of NATi and Tribuo board member, encourages high school learners to seize this exciting opportunity.

“The competition focuses on individual talent and technical skill, offering a unique platform for personal growth.”

High school learners from Gr. 8 to Gr. 12 can enter through their schools or independent drama institutions. Entries can be submitted online at proscenium.pro.

Qualifier rounds begin in February 2025 across all provinces, with the finals from 15 to 17 May at the Artscape Theatre in Cape Town.

Winners will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony on 17 May, where certificates, medals, cash prizes, and the chance to feature in an RSG radio drama await the finalists.

Gr. 12 finalists can also apply for a Northlink College scholarship.

The entry fee is R200 per participant, and the deadline is 27 January. Visit proscenium.pro or write to info@proscenium.pro.
