As much as 400 Gr. 9
learners of three schools within the Siyancuma Local Municipality have gained
essential insights and guidance on their academic and career paths.
This was thanks to a comprehensive career guidance and
leadership development programme, supported by Boikanyo Solar.
This initiative aims to equip young learners with the
knowledge and resources needed to make informed subject choices that align with
their aspirations and potential career goals.
Attended by learners of the Bongani High School, Douglas
Secondary School, and the Riverside High School, the programme provided
valuable guidance at a critical stage in their academic journey. Through
workshops and interactive sessions, it aimed to empower learners to envision
and prepare for successful futures.
“We remain committed to empowering youth in our communities
by supporting programmes that inspire and guide young learners toward their
dreams. By equipping learners with the tools to make well-informed academic
choices, we are fostering a generation that is better prepared for meaningful
and successful careers,” stated Lesego Mosiane, community liaison officer for
Boikanyo Solar.
The modules, including Knowing Yourself, Subject vs Career
Choices, and Journey Mapping, were designed to build self-awareness, clarify
the relationship between subjects and career paths, and prepare learners for
their futures. Through self-reflection exercises and a career-focused
personality test, learners gained insight into their unique strengths and how
these align with potential careers.
As Gr. 9
learners prepared to choose subjects for Gr. 10,
they explored how different subject combinations open pathways to various
careers, empowering them to make informed choices. The journey mapping
component further guided them with a clear roadmap of steps to support their
career development.
“Through the programme, I learned the importance of choosing
subjects based on my career goals, rather than following friends,” shared
Tumeliso Sebolai, a learner of the Bongani High School.
