To help ensure the safety of the learners and staff at the Kenhardt High School, Aries Solar Power donated more than 600 masks to the school.
Each learner received three masks in addition to an extensive supply of sanitiser and hygiene products in June when schools across the Northern Cape reopened.
Deon Keffers, principal, expressed his gratitude towards the solar farm for its assistance to keep the schooling community safe.
He said many learners, staff and parents were apprehensive about returning to school.
“Some parents were afraid of sending their children to school, but now I can show them that we can help keep their children and the teachers safe.”
The solar farm is also working with the district’s Department of Health to co-ordinate the delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE) and medical supplies to the Kenhardt Health Centre.
All of this forms part of the solar farm’s socio-economic development programme that has been redirected to focus on Covid-19 relief and community support.
The supplies included 1 000 disposable medical gowns, 1 000 pairs of medical gloves, 500 medical goggles, 1 950 N95 medical masks and 3 000 units of waterless hand sanitiser.
Tsholofelo Moote, economic development practitioner for Aries Solar Power, says keeping clinic staff protected is essential and that healthcare personnel have to stay safe.
