Despite a windy morning in Kimberley with the start off, riders in the second edition of the Ride2TheKaroo 100 Miler cycle event could finish the race in a tailwind at Klipkraal near Hopetown.

The route for this 166 km trail, which was conquered on 31 August, was not technical, but tested the strength and endurance of riders as they had to cycle on the gravel roads and hills that make up the Northern Cape terrain.

The winners and runners-up of the race, which was open to solo participants and teams of two or four riders, are as follows:

  • overall men: Dusty Day (4:22:24), Jean Fourie (4:23:15), and Alwyn Dippenaar (4:25:15);
  • overall women: Carli Bouwer (6:51:23), and Namaria Brits (7:18:00);
  • mountain bike, men: Jayden Pretoruis (5:52:26), Gert Kruger (5:55:03), and Nicolaas Janse van Rensburg (5:57:25);
  • e-bike, men: Hendrik Kemp (05:58:23), and Francois Koekemoer (5:58:25);
  • team relay: Double D (5:43:43), Totally Unfit or T-U-F (6:43:10), and Aqua Friend 1 (6:49:16).

The next cycle event presented by Oryx Endurance is Battle of the Bikes on Saturday, 5 October, a cycling battle between the Northern Cape Cycling Federation and the Free State Cycling Federation.

It commences at the Magersfontein Golf Estate and traverses through historical battlefields between Kimberley and Bloemfontein.
