The rugby sevens teams of the North-West University (NWU), Potchefstroom, were hailed as the champions of the University Sports South Africa (USSA) 7s Tournament hosted by the Sol Plaatje University (SPU) in Kimberley over the weekend.

In the final women’s game, the NWU Eagles beat Tuks Sport by 10 – 0, while the NWU men’s team thwarted Bellville with 21 – 5 to be named the champions.

The tournament took place from Friday, 22 September, until Sunday, with the men’s section featuring four premier divisions and two invitational pools, with 22 teams. The women’s section provided an equally exciting competition across six pools, and 24 teams.

The matches were played at the Windhoek Draught Park and the SPU Sport Precinct.
