A R1 million reward is offered by SBV Services after a cash-in-transit heist early on Friday morning (05/08), just outside Kimberley, during which an employee was killed.
This reward is offered for information leading to the successful arrest and prosecution of suspects involved in the loss of life of the SBV employee during this heist.
Three other SBV employees have been injured and are being treated in hospital.
According to the police statement, the heist took place on Friday at about 04:55, along the R31 just outside Kimberley.
A group of suspects in a BMW apparently rammed the cash van, causing it to roll over. The suspects then placed explosives onto the van to gain access to the money.
Col Athlenda Mathe, police spokesperson, confirmed that the suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in a getaway vehicle, which has been established to be a Hyundai H1 or Toyota Quantum. Mathe said the police have activated maximum resources and have registered a case of cash-in-transit robbery, murder and attempted murder.
Mark Barrett, group chief executive officer (CEO) of SBV Services, explained in a media statement the decision to offer a reward.
“On behalf of the entire company, I wish to extend our sincere condolences to his family and colleagues. Our thoughts are with our team members and their families for the trauma sustained because of this attack.
“We are offering a reward of R1 million in response to the senseless loss of our colleague and SBV will double up its efforts to ensure that all the individuals involved in this attack will be brought to book and face the full consequence of the law.
“SBV will not tolerate any attack that places our employee’s lives and health at risk. Our message to these criminals is clear: SBV will put in all the necessary resources required and work very closely with the authorities to apprehend these criminals involved in attacks against SBV,” Barrett adds.
“We confirm that we will never close a case until it is solved.
“We extend our thanks to the paramedics at the scene and the medical professionals at the hospital who are providing expert care for our colleagues,” Barrett concluded.
Members of the community with information regarding this attack are encouraged to dial SBV’s hotline on 083-408-7029 to provide information to SBV’s investigations team. This line is active at all hours and callers can be assured that confidentiality is maintained.
