Bakang Kgokong, an athlete of the Vryburg Multisport Club, was the first male to cross the finishing line at this year’s Teemaneng Running Club’s (TRC) half marathon.
Anna Moeketsi of the Graceland Club was the first female to end this race, presented on 28 September in Kimberley.
Second in the male category was Pule Hlabahlaba of Sibanye, and third Tau Segomotso of the Kgosi Galeshewe Athletics Club (KGA). Marlie Hunt (Kimberley Harriers) was the second female, and Adele van Niekerk (Nedbank Development Club North West) third.
As part of the TRC’s half marathon event, Athletics Griqualand West (AGW) hosted its first-ever 5 km qualifying championship. A total of ten athletes across the various age categories qualified in this event based on their specific qualifying times.
They will represent the AGW at the Athletics South Africa (ASA) 5 km championships in Bloemfontein later in October.
Arthur Jantjies of the KGA won the 5 km race in 15:26.
