As part of a back-to-school initiative, over 1 000 Gr. 1 and Gr. 4 learners across six local primary schools in the Siyancuma Local Municipality received brand-new school bags and stationery packs.

Now in its fourth year, this initiative, funded by Boikanyo Solar, continues to support education and uplift young learners in the community.

The support helps learners to be able to focus on their school-work without worrying about having the necessary resources, particularly those starting their schooling journey in Gr. 1 and those transitioning to more advanced learning in Gr. 4.

“Education at the foundational and intermediate levels plays a crucial role in shaping a child’s future. Gr. 1 marks the start of structured learning, where children develop essential literacy and numeracy skills, while Gr. 4 represents a transition to more independent learning,” said Lesego Mosiane, social performance practitioner for Boikanyo Solar, which funds this programme.

Additionally, the initiative stimulated two local black woman-owned SMMEs, which created temporary employment opportunities for two youths, further extending the impact beyond education into local economic empowerment.

Beneficiary schools are the Bucklands Primary School, Ikageng Intermediate School, Vallus Primary School, Douglas Primary School, Bongani Primary School and Vaal-Oranje Primary School.
